Rochdale Canal Reconstruction |
Finance was approved in November 2000 for the reconstruction of the Rochdale Canal. Work commenced at Smithy Bridge and Waterside - (Ben Healey Bridge) in April 2001. Firgrove Bridge in October 2001 and Edinburgh Way roundabout, Castleton, September 2001. The canal was formally reopened on 1st July 2002. Unfortunately the canal was closed again in Summer 2003 as some of the locks were considered to be unsafe! These pages show before and after pictures. |
