These photographs were taken in January 1997 near Smithy Bridge station showing the culverted canal where it passes under Smithy Bridge Road.
Smithy Bridge Road was closed just south of Smithy Bridge station on 2nd of April 2001and was reopened on 10th december 2001, approx. 1 month ahead of schedule. During the closure through traffic was diverted via Littleborough and Milnrow adding upto 3 miles to a one way journey. The canal under the new bridge has now been dredged.
